Vodafone announced its 1Q10 results on Friday and they make very interesting reading. The figures are always a useful guide to how the mobile industry’s faring and Vodafone pointed to many areas of its business that are improving after a couple of indifferent years. Turkey, India and South Africa all improved dramatically in the first [...]

Vodafone’s signed a distribution deal with Warner Music, making it one of the first mobile operators to offer DRM-free music from all the major record labels. The operator’s already signed up Universal Music, Sony Music and EMI.
Although the agreement with Warner Music isn’t earth-shattering, the removal of restrictions from Vodafone’s catalogue is a further step [...]

Looking through the news today, I saw that Orange in the UK has announced a new service called Social Life. This will be a site on the operator’s Orange World portal that allows people to access multiple social networking accounts from one place. This is made by possible by a single log-in.

Today Vodafone announced it will offer the iPhone in 10 new countries. The deal gives Apple a much-needed shot in the arm at a time when its international strategy seemed to be faltering.
Vodafone will sell the iPhone “later this year” in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and [...]

I predict 2008 will have a very distinct soundtrack, as another company announces a mobile music download service.
The launch today, 1 April 2008, of a music service by Danish mobile network operator TDC adds to similar announcements by operators and other companies hoping to get into this market. TDC’s service is called Play; it [...]
