Calls to shut down BBM are misguided
I’ve just read a report in which one of our holidaying MPs has called for the temporary suspension of BlackBerry Messenger to calm the riots that have spread across the UK.
Well, let’s do that and cause even more pain and misery to law-abiding citizens!
Why blame the technology?
We had riots before wireless — let’s blame the postal system. We had riots in the 30s — let’s blame the telephone. We had riots in the 70s — let’s blame CB radio. We had riots in the 80s — let’s blame mobile phones.
No. We should stop pointing fingers and concentrate on fixing the culture that produces mindless acts of destruction.
