Market Forecast: Wearables

A five-year forecast of the wearables market

  • Five-year wearables forecasts
  • Splits by category
  • Split by form factor
  • Scenario-based
  • Updated twice a year
  • Worldwide and UK forecasts

The forecast provides a global scenario-based five-year outlook for shipments of smartwatches and quantified self devices. Three scenarios are presented: low, mid and high.

The forecast provides insight on the installed base, shipments and sell-in value of each category. Each category's shipments and value are then split into sub-categories to offer further granularity. A detailed split of the shipments into form factors is provided, and sub-sections are identified and discussed.

The forecast is delivered in Excel with supporting presentation material. The supporting document discusses the market categorisation, main assumptions, the market developments that have led to any significant changes of the assumptions and subsequently the forecast, key findings and conclusions, and major risks to the forecast.

On request, we can provide further elements of our model and assumptions.

The forecast is revised and published twice a year, although disruptive changes in the market might prompt unscheduled updates. There are currently two versions of the forecast: a UK edition, and a worldwide forecast covering North America, Western Europe, the developed markets of Asia–Pacific, China and the rest of the world.
