CCS Insight Launches Printer and MFP Forecast

New Numbers Complement Imaging Service

CCS Insight has recently added a worldwide forecast for printers and multifunction devices to its Imaging service suite. The forecast covers yearly shipments (units and value) for inkjet and laser single-function and multifunction printers. The forecast period is five years — currently from 2014 to 2018. The forecast covers all regions in the world, and has detailed country-level numbers for Western Europe. In addition to hardware sales, the forecast covers managed print services and document solutions.

CCS Insight expects 124 million printers to be shipped worldwide in 2018, up from 106 million in 2013, increasing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.1% during that period. Inkjet multifunction printers will remain the largest segment, accounting for over 50% of total shipments. However, laser multifunction printers will enjoy the highest growth, surpassing 30 million shipments in 2018. Shipments of inkjet single-function printers will continue to decline and will account for a small niche of the market, at just 4%, in 2018.

Despite the shift toward laser printers and multifunction models, the global sell-in value of printers will rise at a CAGR of less than 2% between 2013 and 2018, reflecting falling prices and stiff competition. In Western Europe, Germany will remain the largest printing market, both in terms of hardware sales and managed print services.

Arnaud Gagneux, CCS Insight Research Director, explains: "Mobility, security, big data and cloud services are transforming the way businesses and consumers use technologies. The consumerisation of IT is further putting pressure on IT departments. Documents are being used in a hybrid digital and analogue environment in a variety of places at any time. As telecommunications and traditional IT products are converging, imaging devices and solutions are rapidly adapting to new user behaviour."
