Last week, CCS Insight held its first-ever Circular Markets event, bringing together key players in tech to explore the fast-evolving circular economy. Hosted by Orange in Paris, the exclusive gathering welcomed more than 180 attendees from 90 leading companies, offering a unique platform to discuss the huge opportunities in this space, particularly for second-hand mobile devices.
CCS Insight has been tracking the strong demand for second-hand devices over the past few years, but there are ongoing challenges as the market transitions to a more structured, professional space. The event underscored the importance of industry-wide collaboration in overcoming these hurdles, and showed that progress will depend on collective effort.
With 19 speakers across several sessions, the event kicked off with a keynote presentation from Philippe Lucas of Orange. Topics centred on crucial challenges, from establishing efficient circular supply chains to prioritizing sustainability and scaling circularity. Panel discussions featured insights from experts at Back Market, Assurant, Vodafone, Recommerce, Foxway and more, who shared their experiences and ideas for navigating the space.
One of the highlights was an interview with Google’s Jon French and Rachel Steinberg, who discussed how the company is pushing for more device circularity. Another standout session focused on what drives consumers to embrace circular economy initiatives — and how companies can tap into that momentum.
The event wouldn’t have been possible without the support of 12 key partners, including Foxway, NorthLadder, Mercantile, Apkudo, Cyculus Services, Dipli, Flip, Kingfisher, PCS Wireless, Recommerce and refurbed. Their contributions highlighted the growing momentum behind circular business models and the shared commitment to building a more sustainable tech industry.
