As Black Friday Looms, 1 Gbps Pricing Is Down 27% in Past Three Years
The price of 1-gigabit-per-second broadband in the UK has dropped a staggering 27% in the past three years, making this year’s Black Friday a great time to switch or upgrade.
London, 20 November 2025: In its latest analysis of the European broadband market, FDM, the industry standard for telecom pricing and market share data, has revealed that UK consumers are set for some of the most competitive broadband prices it has seen for the past three years.
In a recently published report by the firm, which recently acquired leading technology research and advisory company CCS Insight, FDM notes that the average monthly price for a 1 Gbps broadband subscription in the UK during Black Friday promotions has dropped to just over £35, down from over £48 three years ago.
Hayden Shaw, Insights Director at FDM, commented: “Contrary to the widespread coverage of ever-increasing broadband pricing due to inflation-linked price rises, we believe the UK remains a highly competitive market with inflation-beating price erosion for top-tier broadband speeds”.
The 27% decline in UK prices contrasts sharply with the German market, where prices have risen 14% over the past three years, with an average monthly price of nearly £51 for a 1 Gbps broadband subscription.

Interestingly, the Irish market has followed a similar trajectory to the UK, with prices also dropping over the past three years; however, they have fallen less than half as much as in the UK, declining a mere 11%.
Assessing the market, Shaw notes: “It’s not just 1 Gbps speeds where consumers are getting more value — there’s increased competition at all speeds of 150 Mbps and above, as more premises get fibre connections and providers deploy excess infrastructure”.
FDM’s detailed data on broadband pricing across Europe draws on market-leading analysis, enabling it to accurately track the latest price moves, particularly those aligned with promotional periods such as Black Friday. Although Black Friday is widely considered to be a time to get the best prices on consumer electronics and other items, consumers should not forget that they can also optimise household costs for services such as broadband.
